LEGENDS NEVER DIE

When their college-aged son died tragically, a young man’s grieving parents wanted to remember him as he lived — full of life, fun-loving, and artistically gifted. On a visit to his twin and their shared apartment on the outskirts of Georgia Tech, the parents discovered that their lost son had painted a tribute to his favorite bands (concerts that they had attended together as a family) directly onto the wall in his room. Without a moment of hesitation, they went to the local hardware store, obtained the necessary tools, and literally cut the art from the wall. Once the hole was repaired, and the section of drywall wrapped for the trip from Georgia back to Florida, they faced another challenge: How to preserve and mount the precious section of wall on their wall.

Enter Lisa Wood.

After discussing the piece, and their lost son, with the parents, Lisa was able to create the perfect mounting. Rather than a heavy frame, the piece is simply cleaned and squared, the edges sealed. It is mounted on black brackets, standing away from the wall as an architectural piece. The brackets themselves echo wax records in a nod to the beloved bands to which the work pays tribute. Perhaps the most touching aspect is the engraved plate reading, “Legends Never Die.” This was one of their son’s favorite quotes. In fact, he would give gifts engraved with the phrase. It is engraved on this plaque in the same font that he used. The architectural piece is accompanied by a frame holding five family photos and a copy of their son’s signature. Together, this is a personalized memorial grouping that captures the spirit of a bright, talented, well-loved soul and reminds his friends and family that as long as there is love, his legend will never die.
